FESTIVAL OVERVIEW:

Manly’s Ocean Care Day Festival is an annual event coordinated by the Manly Environment Centre. The festival is a fun, interactive all-inclusive community event that aims to raise awareness of the range of environmental issues we face today. Most importantly we aim to provide information to people, which will empower them to take action and make lifestyle choices which will create positive outcomes for themselves, the wider community (locally and globally) and the environment.

FESTIVAL THEME : ‘International Year of the Reef’ – The Reef in our Backyard – Cabbage Tree Bay

On Sunday 7th December, The Manly Environment Centre will be hosting the 15th annual Ocean Care Day Festival from 11am to 5pm on Manly beachfront.

This truly magnificent event will feature: 60+ eco exhibitors, live entertainment including artists Hannah Glassman, Flaming Cadillacs, Beatwood Mac, Ami Williamson, and Amalia Fitzgerald. Meet the Penguin Wardens at the Penguin Plaza, visit the Maori Pavilion for arts & craft and face painting, step inside the Art Tent to meet local artists and view their work. Listen to 3 great marine talks and take a tour of the Australian Surf Museum at the Manly Life Saving Club with one of the Curator’s Ray Moran. See the work of local school children (Cabbage Tree Bay Colouring in Competition) in the Penguin Plaza, make a pledge to a whale…Lots of kids activities, prizes and giveaways throughout the day, Manly Yacht Club Race plus much more…

  • Award winning underwater filmmaker George Evatt - The Marine Life of Manly (1.30pm)

  • Marine Archaeologist Tim Smith - Heritage at the Bottom of the Harbour including the M24 Midget Japanese submarine sunk in 1942. (2.30pm)

  • Author Chris Pash – The last Whale (3.30pm ) - discusses whalers & protesters involved in taking the last whale in Australia
