POLLY Higgins, the keynote speaker at last year's International Conference of Eco ideas, is ramping up her campaign to make ecocide a crime.
The campaign, which hopes to influence world leaders at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in June, will rely on grassroots support and the power of the online community.
Supporters from Australia and around the world are invited to take part in online campaign meetings this weekend. The meetings will discuss strategy and what supporters can do between now and the 'Earth Summit' in June, and is considered a once-in-a-generation opportunity for change. The summit is a 20-year follow-up to the historic 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, which was also held in Rio.
Supporters in Sydney should log on to earth-charter-and-ecocide this Sunday (January 22) at 12 noon.
