KIDS, COMPANIES AND CREEKS
Kids, companies & creeks brought together three important elements in the community:
- Kids - enthusiastic young people who care about their environment
- Companies - local businesses who are part of community
- Creeks - the environmental focus and reason for action
KCC introduced students involved in the Streamwatch program to environmentalists, industry, the local community and waste management experts. They shared information about ways to clean up our local waterways through cleaner production processes and waste management. The project focused on the Balgowlah Industrial Estate, an area with hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses near Manly Lagoon.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the project were:
- To increase awareness about waste minimisation, water pollution and catchment protection
- To motivate business and industry community to adopt practices which minimise the impact on the environment
WHAT DID THE PROJECT ACHIEVE?
The KCC project involved 250 companies and 11 schools. In addition the KCC event was attended by more than 300 people and received considerable media attention.
Since the KCC event there has been considerable interest in the project. Further KCC events have been organised for the Georges River, Manly and Curl Curl Lagoons and the Cooks River catchments.
